Aoba City Center is located downtown Sendai.  Due to the damage by the earthquake, it had been closed during summer.  To celebrate their renovation and to encourage kids there, we joined their event "Science Festival."

We demonstrated "Praparing Battery", "Making Motor", "Experience at minus 200 degree C."

For preparing batteries, chose the materials from stainless steel, isotonic drinks, etc.  Kids were hesitating to choose at first-  perhaps they have no choise at their science classes.  The most popular material was Gold!

Depending on the materials they chose, the battery performance varied.  But combining the cells with their friends', LEDs and melody ICs were powered by all the batteries.

We would be happy if the kids became aware that the answer is not necessarily only one, and the importance of cooperation as well, through the experiments.

To make motors, kids tried to twist copper wire and then put it over magnet.  It might be a bit difficult for small kids, all the coils were rotated at the end.

We are impressed when the kids were excited to see the coils started rotating.  We let them take the coils with them.

By dipped into liquid nitrogen, everything is cooled at minus 200 degree C.  You can drive nails with banana, and even flowers became rigid.  Kids were surprised with what they saw for the first time.

Flowers were donated by the flowershop (they should be basically displayed, of course!).  We appreciate their kind cooperation.

Sendai city has not restored yet, especially coast area, and kids seem to be a bit stressed.  We would be happy if our demostration made them happier.

An elementary school student asked us if we would come next year.  We do if at all possible.
